Privacy Policy
Last updated 22 July 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Pinly ("Pinly", "we", "us") collects, uses, and shares information when you use the Pinly mobile app, the pinlymaps.com website, and related services (the "Service"). We keep the data we collect to what we need to run Pinly, and we do not sell your personal information.
Information we collect
- Account information. When you sign up we collect your email address. If you use Sign in with Apple or Google, we receive a verified identifier and, if you choose to share it, your name. Apple may provide a private relay email address instead of your real one.
- Content you create. The maps, places, descriptions, and cover images you add to Pinly, along with a display name if you set one.
- Approximate location. With your permission, we use your device location to show your current city and maps near you. You can turn this off at any time in your device settings, and Pinly still works without it.
- Technical information. Basic data needed to operate the Service, such as your app version and information contained in requests to our servers. We use this to keep the Service secure and working.
How we use information
- to create and maintain your account and sign you in,
- to store and display the maps and places you create and choose to share,
- to show relevant maps based on your approximate location,
- to keep the Service secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems, and
- to communicate with you about the Service, including sign-in codes and important notices.
We do not use your information for third-party advertising, and we do not track you across other companies' apps or websites.
How we share information
We share information only in these limited situations:
- Public maps. Maps you make public, and the display name shown on them, are visible to people you share them with. Private maps are visible only to you.
- Service providers. We use trusted providers to host our servers, send email, and provide sign-in and mapping features. They may process information only to provide those services to us.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law or to protect the rights, safety, and security of Pinly and its users.
Sign in with Apple and Google sign-in are handled by Apple and Google under their own privacy policies. Maps and place search use open-source mapping tools and open data.
Data retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active. When you delete your account from within the app, we permanently remove your account and the maps you own. Some records may remain in backups for a limited period before they are overwritten, and we may keep information where the law requires it.
Your choices and rights
- You can edit your profile and your maps at any time in the app.
- You can turn location access on or off in your device settings.
- You can delete your account, which removes your data as described above.
- Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete your personal information. Contact us to make a request.
Children
Pinly is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has given us information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make a material change, we will take reasonable steps to let you know, for example through the app or by email. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
